Your home away from home
For the British, Irish and international families who’ve made Nerja home — and everyone just passing through — The Good Stuff Café is the family-run café where the food tastes like home, the welcome is genuine, and everybody knows your order.
From a café in Ireland to a corner of Nerja
The Good Stuff Café began, like most good things, with a bit of wandering.
Adam left Ireland as a teenager with a knack for pubs and cafés and a plan to see the world. Somewhere between Thailand and Australia, he met Irene — and she promptly swapped her job for a rucksack and a one-way ticket alongside him. Together they cooked their way across the map, from high-profile restaurants in Miami to neighbourhood diners in New York and California.
Life, as it does, eventually pointed them home. After a health scare in Miami, Adam and Irene chose to stay close to their roots, settling first in Ibiza — where they welcomed their first child — before making their way to the mainland and, finally, to Nerja.
Then one morning, a small rental unit opened up in a perfect spot. Adam looked at it and saw everything he’d learned in kitchens and cafés around the world finding one place to call its own. They took it. And The Good Stuff Café was born.
More than a decade later — we opened our doors on New Year’s Day, 2014 — it’s still here, busier than ever, and quietly woven into the fabric of the town.
More than a café
Retiring abroad is wonderful — and sometimes it means being a long way from your kids, your grandchildren, and the small comforts of home. That’s the gap The Good Stuff quietly fills.
Our regulars don’t come only for the food (though they’d tell you the food is very good indeed). They come for the conversation, the smiles, the easy familiarity of a place that’s theirs. A proper breakfast that tastes like the one you grew up with. A pot of tea done right. A friendly face who already knows how you take your coffee.
To us, our customers aren’t customers at all. They’re extended family. That’s the whole idea — and it’s the reason we’ve stayed full for years, on word of mouth alone.
The things regulars order without looking at the menu
Everything we serve is made by hand, fresh, every day. A few favourites have earned a following of their own:
Irene’s daily-baked cakes — her carrot cake and vegan cakes are in such demand that people have offered to buy the recipes. (The answer, so far, is a smile and a no.)
The Cinnamon French Toast — golden, topped with thick yogurt and a medley of hand-picked seasonal fruit.
The BLT — simple, done properly, exactly as it should be.
Homemade savoury pies — the kind you genuinely can’t find anywhere else in the Málaga area.
No shortcuts, no frozen anything, no cutting corners. Just good stuff — which, as it happens, is how the place got its name.
A small team that treats a full room like a full house
There are just five of us — Adam and Irene alongside our cook, our prep, and the servers who greet you at the door. Small enough that we know your name; steady enough that the welcome never wavers, whether it’s your first visit or your five-hundredth.
If there’s one thing we’d want to outlast us, it’s that: genuine hospitality. Everything else is just details.
Good stuff, passed on
Being part of a community means looking after the people in it — all of them.
Every day, food that hasn’t sold doesn’t go in the bin. It goes to people in our community who need a meal. And through Suspended Coffees, a warm coffee is always waiting for someone who can’t spare the change for one.
We don’t talk about it for the credit. We do it because we love people, and because a café should give more than it takes. It’s simply part of who we are.
Over a decade. Zero advertising. A very full room.
We’ve never spent a euro on marketing. We’ve never had to. Our reputation was built one plate, one pot of tea, and one warm welcome at a time.

A rare opportunity to carry the story forward
After more than a decade of early mornings and full tables, Adam and Irene are preparing to begin their next chapter — and, for the first time, The Good Stuff Café is looking for its next owner.
This isn’t a business that needs fixing. It’s a proven, profitable, much-loved café with a devoted community, a spotless reputation, and over a decade of goodwill built entirely on word of mouth — ready for someone to step in and continue what’s been started.
If you’ve ever dreamed of running a café on the Costa del Sol — one that already feels like home to hundreds of people — this is a rare chance to inherit not just a business, but a legacy of genuine hospitality worth protecting.
